User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars A HEPA Bag
These bags are standard equipment for my Hoover Platinum upright vacuum cleaner. They are more expensive than the bags I used to buy for my Eureka boss or the bags for my Panasonic canister. Keep in mind, however that these bags are HEPA media, trapping dust and pollens down to .3 microns. With such an effective bag in the vacuum, there’s no need to have a separate and expensive HEPA filter too. I have a personal preference for bagged vacuums and like the idea of trapping and keeping all the carpet gunk in a contained medium.

The bags look and feel of high quality and are heavier and thicker than other vacuum bags I have used. They feel soft and almost clothlike. I like that the bags are easy to install and go on tightly so that there are no bursts of dust thrown back into the air.

These Q-HEPA bags are very large and I’ve read anecdotes of them lasting up to six months. I dont think they’ll last that long for me; I vacuum the house every day because lots of dirt is tracked in the house by two dogs and myself.

The owner’s guide for the vacuum advises not using any scented powder or powdered cleaner on the carpets because the dust may clog the bags. This could be a problem for those who use Capture carpet cleaner as I do. Also if one gets fleas in the carpet, it’s best to vacuum often and change the bag frequently, an expensive proposition with these bags.

To keep the bag smelling fresh I like to add a scent tablet, car air cleaner, or some potpourri to the bag before installation.

The price for these bags on Amazon is good, especially with the four for three deal if it’s available when you read this. Other vendors list these bags for slightly less than Amazon does, but consider the additional postage charged by these sellers.

Finally - I really like the bags and love the Hoover Platinum vacuum cleaner.

5 Stars HEPA Vacuum Bags
I really enjoy these bags in my new Hoover Platinum vacuum cleaner. MUCH more room than a bagless. I can do my whole house 3200 sq. ft. without once changing or emptying anything - and not just once either. Which means MUCH MUCH less dust floating around me. What this bag takes in, it KEEPS. I really can not see a single piece of dust coming out of this vacuum cleaner.

Lest you think I don’t HAVE dust, I have a chocolate lab that produces it’s weight every 10 days in shed hair, and a son that is learning to cook. I also live in Texas, so everything aquires a fine patina around here. *smiles*

The bags seem expensive, although Amazon is the cheapest we have found them. It is worth it to me to be able to keep going when my energy is up enough to vacuum, and for the lack of post vacuum dust that remains.

4 Stars Do What They Are Supposed To Do…
They collect dust! A little expensive, but they definitely don;t let fine particulate through the bag, and that is important!

3 Stars Pricey but Good
The bags work very well but I think they are a little on the pricey side.

5 Stars Love the vacuum!
I love my Hoover “Platinum Edition” vacuum cleaner. Yes, the bags are somewhat expensive, but the quality is great and Amazon was a better route to go than searching locally. I will be back for more.

This powerful home steam vacuum saves you the expense and hassle of having to rent a steam cleaner and keeps rugs, upholstery, and bare floors (other than hardwoods) looking like new. The powerful 12-amp motor combined with five spinning brushes that operate at either high or low speed lift the usual dirt and grime out of carpets. By pulling on the trigger in the comfortable upright handle, this deep cleaner releases the included carpet/upholstery cleaner and hot tap water. For more stubborn stains or for high-traffic areas, this SteamVac also has a Clean Surge feature, which sends an extra blast of cleaning solution into the stain by simply pressing a button on the handle. When cleaning is complete, release the trigger and the SteamVac forces hot air into the cleaning path so you can do a few dry strokes over the stain. This deep cleaner has two separate water tanks to keep clean water apart from dirty water. The top tank holds the detergent and 1 gallon of hot water and automatically mixes the two so you don’t need to get your hands wet. The lower tank holds the dirty solution picked up from the carpet and unlatches to easily pour out into a sink without spilling.

For cleaning stairs or upholstery, this deep cleaner has a long 8-foot hose and a special stair/upholstery nozzle that scrubs out spots. Other attachments include a bare floor nozzle and a powered hand tool that is also ideal for upholstery or small carpet areas. All tools are mounted on the front of the vac in a handy case. Other features of this deep cleaner include a brush indicator, which informs you that the brushes are spinning; an on/off foot pedal; a handle release pedal; and a 27-inch wraparound cord. The Hoover SteamVac is covered by a full one-year warranty. –Cristina Vaamonde

5 Stars No issues yet. Performing as advertised!
I don’t have much to say. I bought this particular cleaner because of the adundance of positive reviews. It has performed exactly as advertised and is a great steam cleaner. The best feature has to be the seperate tanks. My old cleaner had a bag inside the dirty tank that held the clean water. It was a pain. HAving the seperate tanks is wonderful…

Great product.

5 Stars Great cleaner
I purchased this steamvac based on research on the internet and reading the reviews on Amazon. This was my first purchase of a carpet cleaner. Actually, I don’t think any one from my family has ever purchased a carpet cleaner.

I’ve always rented carpet cleaners. Like most people I got tired of the costly rental. The return trip to the store after a hard day of work cleaning carpet is not fun either.

My folks hired professionals to clean their carpet last year. They charged $150 for about 800 square feet of cleaning. They didn’t do a great job either. I figured this machine would pay for itself with one use.

I took the machine to my parents house and we took about 3.5 hours to clean the carpet and another hour to clean the floor tile. I was very careful to clean well since the carpet was so dirty. We pre-cleaned heavy traffic areas with Zep Heavy Traffic Carpet Cleaner (spot cleaner) using a hand brush. We also used the Zep Professional Carpet shampoo. Both can be purchased at Home Depot. The spot cleaner cost about $4 for a small can. The shampoo cost $13 for a large 128 oz bottle. You can easily clean a 3000 sq ft house with a single 128 oz shampoo.

The machine, spot cleaner, and HOT BOILING water did their job. The carpet was clean. The hallway between the bedrooms and both took the longest because of the heavy traffic. I used a lot of the spot cleaner and the result was excellent. There is no need to purchase more expensive chemicals.

We used Pinesoil to clean the tile. Use only half of the measuring cup that comes with the steamvac.

The plastic container that holds the cleaning solution and water contains a cap that doubles as a measuring cup for the shampoo. It contains two lines. I used the top (highest) line for carpet cleaning. I used the lower line for floor cleaning.

I also used the inluded attachment to clean my car’s interior. It did a great job. It’s a little messy but the results are good. I parked it in the hot sun to let it dry with the windows a third down.

Give yourself some time to familiarize the product. It’s a breeze after that. Clean up is very easy. To clean the attachment hose I let it suck pot full of clean water. To clean the steamvac, I poured a gallon of clean tap water on the clean floor and let the steamvac suck it up. You can clean the house that injects the shampoo by filling the shampoo container with water and running the machine back and forth in a small, clean area.

In summary, this is a great product. It will pay for itself after two house cleanings.

5 Stars Excellent machine!!
This machine cleans even better than any commercial carpet cleaning companies I’ve used in the past. The carpet dries way faster, too, which means that the sucking power of this little thing is VERY strong! It was simple to put together and easy to use. I should have bought it years ago!

5 Stars User friendly and priced right.
After reading the reviews on this machine I decided to buy it over other machines. And I am very glad I did. This is a great machine. In one weekend I cleaned all the carpets in my house and was completely amazed at how much stuff it pulled out of my two-year old carpet. I think it took a total of 30 minutes to set up the cleaner out of the box. From there, using it is as simple as vacuuming your carpet. It doesn’t get the carpet soaking wet- which is a good thing! And I was shocked at how much pet hair and sand it pulled out of my carpet. I highly recommend buying this to do carpet cleaning- it’s really like the iPod of carpet cleaners. Simple, easy to understand, and works perfect.

5 Stars just the size
It is just the piece of equipment for the job at hand.I have an apartment and a dog and does a great job. It is not to noisy to heavy and the water intake is fabulous, the carpets are almost dry.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Had to have
I’ve used the Shark Steam Mop on my wood floors without any supplemental traditional bucket/shine type mopping for a year and a half now and love the way the floor is “sanitized” as well as how effectively it can dissolve a gooey “splat”. To say the handle is “flimsy” is a gross understatement. Mine snapped clean off within the first few weeks leaving a sharp pointed edge to contend with, but otherwise functioning normally. I duct-taped the end and have continued to use it 3-4 times a week. It does not shine the floor, but definitely cleans it. I have never used the carpet “refresher”, the corner head or the purple floor buffer. It came with two pads for the traditional floor cleaning head and after so much use (3-4 x/week for 1.5 years so far) and washing in the washer/dryer they have held up well. Only now are they beginning to show serious wear - the velcro is weak, the fabric is thinning, etc. and need to be replaced. Recently, in our new house, I missed the high shine of some other popular products (Quick Shine, specifically)and cleaned the entire floor first with the Shark, then following up with Quick Shine on a microfiber pad. BIG MISTAKE. Now the floors are dull and sticky and I will have to use ammonia to restore them or buy the Quick Shine company’s “Quick Shine Remover” (!). After that chore I will return to solely cleaning my floors with the Shark. It gets four stars because the handle is so cheap and weak, but otherwise I could not live without it.

1 Star Save your money!
What a disspointment this product was! It was easily assembled and the instructions were clear; however, it barely produced enough steam to even moisten the pad. After continuous pumping to prime the system, it still failed to produce steam. I’m returning it as soon as I can get it back in the box!

5 Stars Better the the original!
I owned the original Shark Steam Mop, so when I needed a replacement I went for the Pocket version which is better mostly because the pad doesn’t fall off and you have two sides to clean with. I have recommended this to many friends who have also purchased and fell in love with theirs! There is nothing like the pure cleaning of steam!

5 Stars Great mop!
Great little cleaner! Lightweight, easy to use, no cleaning products necessary. Floors seem cleaner than with other mops and you don’t have that “sticky” feel after using cleaners on the floors.

1 Star Not that great
I’ve only had this mop for 8 months, and it is already broken. Just all of a sudden stopped working. I’ve used it maybe 10 times. No steam will come out of it. Really disappointing. When it was working it was just ok. The pumping of the handle was annoying. It really didn’t scrub the floor at all. I mostly used it after I mopped to clean it even more. I would not purchase this again.

5 Stars This little handheld is very, very good
I really like this handhelf vacuum and I consider myself a tough critic. The pivoting head is my favorite feature. The head pivots and can be stopped at various points so you can customize the vacuum. This is helpful as you might want it at different angles depending on where the item being vacuumming is located and depending on the user (a 9 yr old vs adult). The best part of the pivoting head is that it folds back on the vacuum to allow it to stow discreetly. I love that about it. Other pros: plenty of powerf, easy to remove the filter, easy to clean and empty after every use. My only con is that the little attachments always fall off the base when removing the vacuum.

4 Stars PHV1800CB
Overall, this is a great vacuum cleaner. Tons of cleaning power and pretty good battery life.

The pivoting nose/wand is great for getting into tight places.

Downside… the end of the wand is fairly small and therefore more passes are required to clean-up a given area as compared to most other hand vacs that I own. The pivoting nose would be much better if you didn’t need to depress the lock button to open, adjust, or close. It just seems to be a wasted motion since the pivoting nose/wand has position detents.

3 Stars Not as Great as the Ratings
Battery doesn’t really last long enough to clean out an entire car and the attachments aren’t really long enough to do so anyway. The other thing that is really annoying is that it is not a one-way system, there is a giant hole from the end of the nozzle to the filter and as soon as I put the vacuum back on the charger, anything that was in the chamber just falls back out. What is the point of vacuuming if it doesn’t hold the crumbs?? Otherwise you have to empty it every time you use it.

5 Stars Black & Decker 18- Volt Handheld Vacuum Cleaner
This Black & Decker Vacuum has got to be the best hand held vacuum I have ever used. It has two speeds and the pivoting nose is great. It holds a charge really really long, and the suction is unbelievable. It has no bags, just a compartment that is easy to dump when full. Sure makes clean up quick and easy.

5 Stars great product..
im a 30 year old guy living alone.. hate cleaning.. this products is awesome, sucks up everything… get it…lol

4 Stars Almost perfect
I was very impressed with shipping; the product arrived within a few days after I placed an order. This cleaner gets the job done. It’s actually not as heavy as others have made it out to be. I would appreciate it more if more time was allowed for usage before the machine shuts off to cool down its motor but since I have a small space to work with it’s not a huge deal. Probably not recommended for those who need heavy duty cleaning within a large space. Overall it’s a nice gadget for a small room like the one I own.

4 Stars Eureka 71B Hand-Held Vacuum
Excellent suction. Works great on stairs. Picks up pet hair extremely well. Would definitely recommend it!

4 Stars just a little heavy
the product is a good little vaccum for pet hair removal…the only complaint is that its just a little heavy but the performance more than makes up for that. KISSES!~

5 Stars excellent product
It is amazing and somewhat humbling to find out how much stuff/dirt is left behind by other vacuums. Like many other reviewers I have a cat, and you would not know it after using this Eureka. Also does an incredible job on the stairs. Only downside, also noted on other reviews, is that it is somewhat uncomfortable holding on to. If this could be addressed it would be a perfect product.

5 Stars Great little vacuum!!!
This vacuum is fantastic, it gets everything, is light weight, and is easy to empty. It’s a little loud, but that just means it’s working.

3 Stars Tried a few
Hi, all,

Since I have been searching for a steam mop since my Shark quit and have read all the reviews, just thought another opinion might help.

I have osteo, so, it is very important to me to have clean floors at a very minimal effort.

I first tried the Eureka Enviro Steamer Steamer on a ship to store feature at you know where….

I couldn’t wait to get it, but, although it cleaned my kitchen tiles very well, it was very hard to push on our sealed wood floors even for my husband, so, returned.

Then tried the Hoover FloorMate. Although it cleaned the tile very well, it was loud and I wanted something I could use at anytime of day or night without waking anybody up. Was concerned about using the brushes on our wood floor and the mess of emptying it turned me off. This wasn’t it..

Next was the Deluxe Shark Steam Mop with all the heads. I will admit it is beautiful to look at…but, ours didn’t develop much steam. I tried it at different times and different days and it just wouldn’t work. Plus, upon consideration, they recommend the pads be washed separately and then air-dried to prevent picking up lint from the washer/dryer. And, they are white! They recommend you change pads every 3 months…could get expensive. I wanted something like my old Shark.

Well, I found it. It is like my old Shark in that I can just put the pad on the bottom and go. No attaching a separate head with it’s own pad. With the Deluxe each head has its own pad and was a little hard to push for me, also.

What I like about my new one is I found the pads on ebay super cheap that I can use, just put on the bottom and it is ready. Plus, the pads are like nothing I have seen for the wood floor and it makes it so easy to push. Looks almost like the shag rugs of the past. It comes with the rug glider that is supposed to freshen carpets. I haven’t tried it yet, but even if it does nothing, I still think it is great for me to use on a regular basis.

They provided a small spray on scent that they say you can spray on the top of the pad (not that touches the floor) to give off a nice clean scent. And,I assume I can use any scent when that runs out. The cord is 25 ft.

All in all I think it’s great.

Called the Shark Light & Easy…and, it is.

I hope this helps someone who has health problems like I do. If I did this wrong, sorry, first time doing this..Just thought it could help.

2 Stars worked for 1 month
It worked well for 1 month. Then it stopped altogether. It turns on but does not heat up. I am taking it to an authorized repair center today.

4 Stars A few suprises..
I anxiously awaited receiving the Eureka Steam Mop and today it arrived. I read nearly every review of steamers and steam mops on the web before settling on this one. It had so many great reviews for tile floors it won me over. I have 900 sq. ft. of tile, 500 sq. ft. is lightly textured with 1/2″ grout and porcelain inlays, 300 sq. ft. is heavily textured over the entire surface, and 100 sq. ft. has been in for nearly 50 years. The grout is in various states of its original bone color to nearly black. I’ve been loyal to my Libman Wonder Mop and a bucket of hot water and vinegar to keep it clean but it is a tedious chore to do the whole lot. I found myself mopping the big areas once a week and letting the rest slip for weeks.

Once I got the Eureka Steam Mop assembled, pad on and filled up I let it sit the requisite 5 minutes then slipped on a pair of white socks to see if it really would work. I had read about the “breaking in” period where it will leave excess water so I had a towel at the ready. At first I didn’t notice a significant difference in the tiles, but then again I had mopped just a few days ago. I did notice the grout lighten ever so slightly in some areas in the kitchen but nothing to get excited about. One thing that was very noticeable and horribly disconcerting was the odor that arose the more I steamed the grout. I can only assume as the grime is lifted out the odors are released and I can assure you it does not leave the house “fresh” smelling. Hopefully once the grout is clean this odor will be gone!! Once the floors dried they did have a shine to them I had not seen in quite some time. The white socks are still pretty much white.

All in all I am pretty pleased with the Eureka Steam Mop. I filled the mop twice covering 700 sq. ft., running through both pads. I will note the pads were only slightly soiled but I changed them because they were saturated with water. I think I will take the advice I read for additional pads and get the Clorox Large Surface Mop Microfiber refill pads, I understand they fit quite nicely and are reasonably priced. I look forward to seeing how the mop holds up and if it really will get all my grout back to its original bone color.

4 Stars No bucket, no mop, no soap, no problem!
Yes, I read A. Chandler’s review along with hundreds of other shoppers. For all I know this reviewer works for Eureka, but who cares? I was steered to buy the Eureka Enviro Steamer and I couldn’t be happier!

What a joy it is to clean my wood floors without dragging out the wood soap, bucket, (dirty) mop, etc. The floor gets clean in just a few minutes and is dry in another few minutes after that. (I do vacuum well before using the steamer.)

The steamer comes with two pads. Per another reviewer’s advice, I flip the pad over when one side gets dirty so I can clean my family room, kitchen, living room, dining room, foyer, and powder room all with one pad. Then I throw it in the washing machine and wash in hot water.

I have misplaced the little funnel and water cup that came with the steamer. The fill hole is very small, so I ended up using the tube part of a turkey baster as a funnel.

Bottom line: This steamer is an INCREDIBLE time-saver when it comes to cleaning wood floors!

1 Star Bad Selection
I purchased this item based on the positive reviews. What a disappointment. It takes forever to clean a large area. You must leave the cleaner on each section at least 20 seconds, an area about 10inches x16inches, to “steam” the section. And that is on a lightly soild floor. Therefore, a large floor, 13 feet x 20 feet takes forever to clean. A bucket of water, a little Mr. Clean and a “miracle mop” work better and 10 times faster. This would be a good, although very expensive, tool for a small bathroom area. Very sorry I purchased it. Just another useless product to store in the closet.

3 Stars Very Loud
This is your basic vacuum cleaner.

Set up: Had some trouble pushing the 2 screws in because the holes were misaligned. Took some effort and time to finally get them through the holes. The screws were not a tight fit, meaning they didn’t screw in tightly into the washers.

Vacuum: Only used once.

PROS: As far as I can tell, the vacuum does a decent job. The accessories work. Small and lightweight. There is a pull on the vacuum which makes maneuvering it easier.

CONS:The cord and the hose are a bit short, as mentioned in previous reviews. It is also very, very loud. I am certain the people next door could hear me vacuuming through the walls. Unlike the vacuum described in the manual, there is no light indicator to tell you which areas are especially dirty or clean. So, you won’t know which areas to go over more than once. There is also no sounds indicating it’s actually picking up dirt. I did notice the vacuum sometimes didn’t pick up little pieces of dirt that I could visually see on the carpet, other times it did fine.

Overall, you get what you pay for.

4 Stars Great Vacuum and Great Value
I bought this vaccum while in grad school, figuring that for the low price, I’d be okay with it dying in a year or two. I was really impressed by the quality and the cleaning power. The way it was explained to me was that you might burn out a vacuum quickly in a large home, but for an apartment or condo or smaller home it probably has good lasting power. And mine lasted until I accidentally ran over a pair of socks and killed the gear or something like that. At that point, the repairs were too costly to be worth it, but I’m buying another and wont’ leave my things about when I’m vaccuming. If you need a 2nd vacuum or even a first for a smaller space, you won’t be let down by this. Good power, and yeah, it’s noisy but what vacuum cleaner isn’t?

5 Stars great product!
I reviewed all upright style vacuums on Consumer Reports, and this one rated near the top but was HUNDREDS of dollars less than the models that scored only a few points more. I was looking for a great functioning vacuum that was light enough for my kids to (hopefully) use, and this one is great. Is actually self propelled forward, bag is easily accessed, and is a GREAT BUY at $80. Love it.

4 Stars Cheap sweeper cleans up
Bargain sweeper that works. We use it at our buisness. It gets used and abused by all the employees. Works great and when it dies I buy a new one. Why pay three times the money for a fancy sweeper that doesnt do any better job?

5 Stars cheap, works great, box is theft target
Read a lot of reviews, watched prices, and bagged this vacuum for $65 with free shipping. The day it was supposed to arrive I got home and it wasn’t there. I reported it missing to Amazon and UPS, but no response from Amazon and UPS investigated but they only work with the shipper. After two weeks I contacted Amazon again using the chat option, asked what the status was, and the rep sent a second one with two-day shipping. This time I stayed home to catch the UPS guy and although he put it behind the gate, it was still visible and the box is big and colorful with pretty pictures of the vacuum to tempt your less-honest neighbors.

Unpacking and assembly were simple, although one of the bolts needed some force to get the nut started and the diagram of where to thread the power cord doesn’t match this model. Once I got it running I was amazed at the suction power. This could hold it’s own against my Rigid wet/dry vacuum. Fuzz that the old vacuum couldn’t touch was gone in a single pass, and you could feel it clinging to the carpet, trying to move on its own from the force of the brush. I used the extension wand under some furniture and it was just as good. All this and I forgot to mention that there is a crack in the hose (it works well but it’s not “high quality”). I did the whole house and there was a big scary ball of hair and fuzz in the bag.

This vacuum is great on short-nap or berber carpet, and probably great for any high-quality, dense carpeting. I would recommend it for pet hair. It might be too aggressive for cheap shag, but at this price I’d try it anyway. It’s not abnormally loud. You don’t need a light. The lower handle makes it easy to pick up the whole thing to do the stairs. I don’t understand the people who try to use a vacuum on hard surfaces - that’s what brooms, dust mops, and sweepers are for. At this price you can afford the right tool for both jobs. Definitely recommended for both initial performance and price.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars A review for people who are not clean freaks
First off, its important as a matter of perspective to note that I am NOT a clean freak, not by a long shot. I never even considered the possibility before that one vacuum could be better than another; if it had suction - good enough. It wasn’t until my last vacuum drove me absolutely insane with the constant changing of belts (1 to 3 belt changes per use, approx. 700 sq ft done per use with my old dirt devil) that i decided it was time for a major upgrade. It was the lifetime belt with its 6 year warranty on this hoover that prompted me to buy it, because I NEVER WANT TO CHANGE ANOTHER FRIGGIN’ BELT AGAIN. From what I can gather, it sounds like Hoover never expects you to have to change this belt, which is pretty awesome. I never dreamed that there would be other reasons to love this vacuum. Boy was I wrong.

This vacuum does more than pick up crumbs from the floor. It actually makes your carpet feel cleaner. I think my carpet got a shade or two brighter than I’ve ever seen it before. I have some fairly heavy duty kitty litter piles that get embedded in my carpet. Not only does it pick them right up, but it does it without flinging the cat litter all over the room in the process!

One of the major deterrents that always kept me from wanting to vacuum before was that my allergies (which normally aren’t that bad at all) would go bonkers - itchy eyes, burning sinuses, not pleasant. When I use my new hoover - there are NO unpleasant side effects. It’s incredible. Some vacuums claim they are picking up 99.9% of dust, but they don’t specify where that dust goes after they pick it up (i.e. “sure we pick up ALL the dust, but then we just fling it back up into the air so you can breathe it all in and feel sick”). This vacuum REALLY picks it up, no flinging of dust here, not that my sinuses can detect anyway. Feeling less sick when cleaning - priceless.

False claims abound about vacuums having an automatic shutoff when something gets caught in the brushroll; this one was honest about that too - have already tested it (by accident) and it was really on the ball - a super-quick shutoff to keep stuff from getting damaged - very cool. It is also quieter than most vacuums so no terrified kitties here. I could actually hold a conversation while I vacuumed, so that’s pretty damn quiet for a vacuum.

Now about the little shoulderstrap additional vacuum that comes with all the attachments - I have yet to find a way to wear it that doesn’t blow hot air on your butt which is somewhat unpleasant especially on a hot day. So slight downside there. But overall I find it highly satisfying - you really feel like you’re accomplishing something with this little thing. It gives you so much maneuverability and you don’t have to worry about keeping an eye on the stupid floorvac while it tries to wrap its brushroll around everything in the house everytime your back is turned. Its so much less of a hassle for me that I find myself vacuuming things I never would have even dreamed of vacuuming before. I was never much of a duster, but I find myself hunting down more things to conquer with my vacuum backpack. The dusting brush works much better when you angle it flat against the surface you’re trying to dust - sometimes you have to push it down a bit to make sure its flat enough to get suction (this is probably quite normal - i don’t really have a basis for vacuum dusting comparison).

Anyway, just thought it important to note that even if you don’t think a vacuum upgrade could improve your life - you might not have realized all the things a really great vacuum can do for you. Hopefully I have given all the cleaning slackers an easier to relate to perspective about this vacuum. Its definitely worth paying a bit more for a vacuum when you get results like this.

5 Stars At last, a terrific vac design!!
After many years of hating vacuum cleaners, tripping over cords, drugging heavy bulky vacs up and down stairs and along hallways, there’s finally a vacuum cleaner that solves most of these problems! This two-part vac is an ingenious design. A lightweight vac for floors and carpets, and another small shoulder unit for hard to reach places. No more dragging the upright around to reach blinds, window ledges, furniture crevices or other hard to reach places that I mostly ignored. This machine is vacuum cleaner bliss, if that’s possible!

A lot of market research must have gone into the design of this vacuum set. There are lots of convenience features such as the telescoping wand and the way parts fit together. Very well designed, attractive and well made machines. Not junky like some recent Hoover machines. And the price was great. ($208 at Amazon checkout, August 2010) I have large wool area rugs, vinyl and laminate flooring. This vac works great on all of them.

The design and quality of this two vacuum set is far superior to the older Hoover WindTunnel I had before. This older unit still has good suction, but I hated the heavy bulkiness, manual floor adjustment and poorly designed tool caddy. In that unit the tool cover was always flopping open, tools falling out, and finally the on-off switch quit working. That’s when I read the reviews for this dual set and decided to buy it. I hope Hoover keeps this vac set in production! After 40 years, I finally found a vac I like. Note: You can get velcro pads for shoulder straps (sold for seat belts) at auto supply stores.

4 Stars It’s a keeper!
We checked out Consumer Reports’ listings & went to look at the top 4: ‘best buy’ & ‘recommended’ models. This ‘recommended’ Hoover model made the cut. The idea of a separate unit for floors, walls, etc., was very appealing. The main unit is very lightweight but has excellent suction. It is easily maneuverable, although I do miss the rotating front wheels on the Dirt Devil which made it super easy to steer. (Considering how heavy that sucker was (no pun intended!), they were a great feature.) And I do think it may be the quietest vacuum I’ve ever heard! (This model was even rated higher than the tested Kirby which is nice considering the investment you can make in one of those.) After reading reviews here, I’m very glad we bought this model! [I just wish I'd remembered I saved one to the shopping cart; we could've saved quite a bit! ]

1 Star Terrible vac & SUCKY HOOVER customer “service”
My first vac arrived with a malfunction - the change bag light was on & the light would not turn off despite removing and re-installing the bag. In addition, the vac would simply turn off repeatedly when I tried to vacuum. So I contacted Hoover’s ‘Platinum’ customer ’service’ & explained the issue. The Hoover rep (Rebecca) stated there had been a problem with the circuit board in this model & offered a replacement unit. Fine. So the 2nd unit arrives & it has the SAME PROBLEM…right out of the box! Again, I contact Hoover’s customer ’service’ & the rep says I can 1) Request a refund 2) She can send a ‘tested’ unit out(vac #3!!!!), but I have to send back at least one of the 2 units I have before they’ll process the 3rd vac. The rep was definitely trying to persuade me to take the 3rd unit & not the refund. I said I’d pretty much had it with the flawed units/waiting/dealing with this ongoing problem & was inclined to take the refund. She said she’d send labels out for both unit returns. Fine. So she sends ONE label to me & I send her ONE unit. I called Hoover customer ’service’(Brittany)to request the return label for the refund of the remaining unit & I’m told THEY WON’T ISSUE A REFUND FOR THE REMAINING MALFUNCTIONING UNIT!!!! I was shocked! According to ‘their’ notes, I had said I was cool with just getting a 3rd unit & not the refund. NOT TRUE!!!! I stated I never agreed to a 3rd unit & wanted a refund. The Hoover rep said they don’t DO refunds. I asked for a manager (Lisa)and was directed to a voice mail graveyard where my refund request message sits & rots. I think this is sick, considering the cost of the unit, the time wasted, & the level of irritation. HOOVER Customer ’service’ SUCKS & not in a good way!!!! These units ARRIVED BROKEN!!!! The Hoover rep ADMITTED there’s a circuit board problem!!!! I would expect more from Hoover. Shame! Shame! I’ll be making it a point to tell EVERYONE about my terrible experience with Hoover & their poor quality control!!!!

4 Stars happy with purchase
For the same price about 7 years ago, I bought a sears progressive and never found that it did a good job.

I’m thrilled with the hoover platinum. It seems to be well made, does a great job on floors and carpets, not too loud and I love the canister as well for ceilings, baseboards and corners, though it isn’t incredibly comfortable - you have to wear a t-shirt -i tried with a tank and the strap rubbed against my skin. I like that the upright doesn’t use tools attached and that the canister is separate. I hope it holds up well. I’m really happy with my purchse. I waited too long to get a new one. glad to retire the sears vaccuum.

5 Stars Bags and Vacuum work great
Just got the Vacuum from Best Buy. They didn’t sell the bags for the vacuum there (go figure), so I bought them on Amazon. They came quickly and the vacuum works great. I haven’t bought a vacuum in years. This one was relatively inexpensive, as were the bags. Every thing is fine so far!

5 Stars Good bags
These bags are a good price replacement bag for my vacuum. This is the second time I’ve ordered them. They are strong and thick. They pick up the dust–even fine chalky dust from doing house renovations. I recommend them.

5 Stars Beats the store price
I can find only a limited selection of vacuum bags in my local stores, so when I found them on line, and at such a great price, I was thrilled. Now I only get them from online sources. I change my bags often, and I think paying $3 a bag is ridiculous. These bags work great and I can buy them from home.

4 Stars Type Y Vacuum Bags
Bags fit fine, no problem. Vacuum seemed to have extra vacuum power with these bags. Felt a little more resistance to forward motion, which I am guessing is the extra vacuum suction. Possible cleaning carpets better. Since the operation seemed a little different, only gave them a four star rating.

5 Stars Hoover Y bags
I purchased this for someone else and was told that they work real well with the Hoover vacuum.

5 Stars Hooverfixer
The product arrived very quickly and is just as described. The installation was simple. Now I have my Hoover Vac running properly again and a replacement belt for any future problem. The price was very reasonable. Thanks Amazon!

4 Stars Best Source for the Belts
These belts are the weak spot in the Hoover mechanism, so you should lay in a supply because the machine is worthless if one snaps (which can happen easily if you get something tangled in the brush while vacuuming)and there is no replacement on hand. I’d suggest buying in bulk. The price is right and the supplier responds quickly. I give the product four stars because the belts are inherently weak. (To be fair, if they were any more robust they would be impossible for normal people to install.) But I give this source five stars plus.

I really wish the vacuum would have come with more than one of these belts. These seem to break when I vacuum over something that gets wrapped around the agitator and then causes the belt to part. This product was perfect for my Hoover vacuum though. Thanks.

                        Pros

-Two pack of belts, good value

-Useful to have a pack around if belt breaks

-Normally your belt only breaks if your vacuum gets stuck on some rug or sofa cloth

Nothing else to say really, two pack of a vacuum belt at a good price!

This vacuum, though having a lot of suction, is pretty flimsy in construction. When the hose is used with the crevice tool, all the dirt, etc that is in the canister comes flying out from where the hose was connected for regular vacuuming. Within a week after buying this vacuum, there was a Recall Notice because of a faulty power cord winder. I had decided before I receive the Recall Notice that this was a substandard cord winder so I stopped using it. Now I just have a loose cord laying around. Nice. I have tried the phone number sent to me in order to receive the repair kit, but the phone number does not work. Having not been able to contact a “live” person (nor a recording) to remedy this situation, I will never buy a Hoover item again.
