5 Stars Does a $20 vacuum work?
well it actually does… and it does it perfect
pros: great price
very easy to built up
good power of absortion
small: doesnt take much space in your room
cons: may be a lil’ more power
I just loved it… buy it if you just want to use it for a small room, it will not work as well if you use it for your entire house cause it might not work in carpets or big spaces…but if you have a lil’ room and you have problems with dust… GO FOR IT!!! its just $20 .. every dollar counts and it makes it count each every one of ‘em ^.^
5 Stars Surprisingly good!
When I received this item, I was surprised at how light it was. I thought the head was really small too, but that turned out to be a great thing. It fits around my toilet and under my kitchen chairs, places I had to take apart my old vacuum to fit around. It picks up everything on the first pass, even pieces of dog food my dog loves to leave around the house. It is not as great on carpets, as expected, only good for surface cleaning. But I am so pleasantly surprised with the ease of use and quality for the price. Two small things I will say against it are that the power cord is too short, but workable, and the on/off switch is in a bad location. A couple of times, when I was vacuuming under chairs, the chair rail hit the switch and shut it off. But overall, can’t be beat for hard floor cleaning and a great value for the money.
5 Stars WOW!
When I moved into my efficiency apartment I needed a small vac to clean the carpet, and I am more than pleased with this vac. It cleans great (my carpet is tight knit), easy to empty (no worry about paper bags)and clean and stores easily. After 4 months I am still pleased with the power of this vac. Highly recommended unless you really need deep cleaning power.
4 Stars Torn
We recently purchased this product because we installed laminate floors throughout our home and love the swiffer but needed something for anything that would not stick to the pad like larger crumbs from the dog and cat. We have one dog and one cat and this product is GREAT for pet hair. It is lightweight and easy to manuever and picks up all the pet hair. But, for crumbs and other things tht land on the floor, you have to be in the perfect position with the vacuum or it will not pick up. It has no suction on the sides, only in the front center of the vaccuum. This is like dustbuster with a vaccum cleaner head on it. Don’t expect anything more than that! And, the cord is EXTREMELY short!! You have to un-plug and re-plug it in in every room you are in. I have permanantly attached an extension cord to it. Really annoying.
Overall, I use it because we bought it and it is good with the pet hair, I probably would not buy it again if something happens to it.
4 Stars good for floors
I bought the dirt devil a few weeks ago and it is great for cleaning up my little apartment. It picks up small particles for food, dirt etc just fine. Works much better on floors than on the carpet. If you want it to pick up cat hair, let me tell you that it won’t do that very well. It will leave most of it on the carpet and you’ll have to bring out the BIG vacuum to get that cleaned.
It works fine for me for twice a week cleaning, but once in 2 weeks I do need the regular vacuum.
Eureka 4870MZ Boss Smart Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner
Eureka 4870MZ Boss Smart Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner

Let’s face it. Most vacuums just don’t cut it when it comes to really cleaning a home or office. Pesky pet hair embeds deeper in carpet than traditional vacuums go; bits and pieces of tracked-in dirt and debris hunker down under floor trim just out of reach of the latest brush innovations, rendering us to the silliness of handpicking behind that expensive vacuum, filling our pockets with lint, and wondering–who’s really the boss? Troubles like these made the folks at Eureka get down and dirty and, ultimately, design the Boss Smart-Vac Upright Vacuum. Offering powerful performance for everyday household cleaning, the Eureka Boss is the solution for people who insist on having a truly clean home. The Boss’s Direct Air Control System features an air selector switch that lets you direct all suction either deep into the carpet or to the hose for easy above-the-floor cleaning. The Power Paw brush makes it easy to clean stairs and upholstery, and even claws up embedded pet hair, so Fido can spend more time inside. The motorized brush lets you go from carpet to bare-floor cleaning with the flick of a switch. The Boss Smart-Vac is powered by a beefy, 12-amp motor that provides plenty of suction power for deep-cleaning carpets, and leaves nothing behind on hard floors.
Pretty smart, right? Well, here’s the really smart part. The Boss Smart-Vac isn’t just the best household carpet- and floor-cleaning vacuum on the market; it’s also equipped with a unique, sealed, HEPA filtration system that captures 99.97 percent of dust, pollen, allergens, and bacteria. So, vacuuming the house doesn’t mean you have to dust afterward, or sneeze while you’re doing it. Cleaner carpets and cleaner indoor air at the same time!
Plus, the Boss comes loaded with user-friendly features to take the frustration out of vacuuming. A wide 15-inch cleaning path covers a lot of ground quickly before company comes. In addition, the exclusive dust trap system captures debris and dust in three stages. A handy stretch hose extends to five times its original length for reaching around furniture and sucking the cobwebs off the ceiling. And, a 30-foot cord won’t leave you coming up short. The bare floor brush is designed to smoothly glide across wood and tile floors while picking up more dust and debris in corners and along baseboards than any other model. One extra Type-R belt and one bonus bag come included. The vacuum cleaner measures 12 by 15 by 44 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty. –Brian Olson

4 Stars Less expensive, but does the job
I have had this vacuum for about a month now and I am very satisfied with it so far. The machine is heavy and big, but the self-propelled function makes up for it. So far, no problems with losing suction or breaking belts. I especially like the “dial” function to change from floor cleaning to attachments. The “claw” works very well on stairs. I would recommend it. (Also good with pet hair.)
5 Stars Great Product!!!
Just purchased the Eureka Boss Smart Upright, based on a review in Consumer Reports (a “CR Best”). This vacuum has UNBELIEVABLE suction!!! It picked up items my expensive Kirby missed and great on hardwood/tile floors! The attachments are easily accessible, too. You will not be dissappointed with your purchase.
4 Stars Eureka 4870MZ Boss Vacuum
Incredible suction and very light. Attachment hose could be a little longer, only reaching halfway up my steps and specs did not tell how long the hose was when I ordered. The plastic nozzle where you attach tools cracked the first day, but I may have been a little too agressive. I would definitely recommend this vacuum because of reasonable price, suction power and the attachments surprisingly stay in their holders.
2 Stars extremely disappointed, will give away for tax wiite-off
After researching Consumer Reports, I bought the above captioned vacuum cleaner instead of buying another Hoover to replace my twenty-one year old machine.
The Eureka came without its tools or wand. The yellow switch that’s supposed to toggle between floor and carpet just flops, unattached to anything. The vacuum does a good job on the carpet, but I only have one carpeted room. It does not pick up anything from the bare floor, including Cherrios, rug fuzz which it throws off the carpet onto the floor, kitty litter or dust. And, yes, I did switch the indicator (not the yellow switch) from carpet to floor as the Eureka customer service rep. asked me.
It IS heavy–on my scale, 23 pounds, without the box. If I still had said box, I’d return it this minute.
I haven’t been able to try the hose attachment since the promised wand and tools haven’t arrived.
I would not recommend this product to anyone.
5 Stars Great Purchase!
I just bought this vaccuum last week and after several hours of use I am very pleased with it. I’ve never used a Dyson so I can’t compare the two. However, unless the Dyson miraculously goes around cleaning all by itself while you’re at work, I don’t know what I’m missing out on with this Eureka.
I spent a couple hours researching vaccuums and reading reviews before purchasing. The 3 biggest criteria that influenced my purchase decision were the ability to do a good job of cleaning BOTH carpet and hardwood floors, suction power, and price.
The 4870 does a great job on my carpeted floors and hardwoods. You can disable the roller brush for when you’re using the vaccuum on hard flooring. This is a great feature. As I have a lot of hardwoods I wouldn’t have bought a vaccuum without this feature. Reading reviews of other vaccuums, I saw that the exhaust blew out the front and scattered the dust bunnies that you were trying to suck up. I have not had this problem at all with the 4870.
It has great suction power and I like the Power Paw attachment for cleaning my sofa. When the handle is in the upright and locked position the vaccuum’s floor brush roller is disabled. This is another nice feature since you don’t want the brush running constantly in one spot of your carpet while you’re using the handheld hose and attachments.
Finally, I think it’s a great value for a small price (I paid $140) and I recommend it!
Hoover F5914 900 SteamVac with Clean Surge
Hoover F5914 900 SteamVac with Clean Surge

This powerful home steam vacuum saves you the expense and hassle of having to rent a steam cleaner and keeps rugs, upholstery, and bare floors (other than hardwoods) looking like new. The powerful 12-amp motor combined with five spinning brushes that operate at either high or low speed lift the usual dirt and grime out of carpets. By pulling on the trigger in the comfortable upright handle, this deep cleaner releases the included carpet/upholstery cleaner and hot tap water. For more stubborn stains or for high-traffic areas, this SteamVac also has a Clean Surge feature, which sends an extra blast of cleaning solution into the stain by simply pressing a button on the handle. When cleaning is complete, release the trigger and the SteamVac forces hot air into the cleaning path so you can do a few dry strokes over the stain. This deep cleaner has two separate water tanks to keep clean water apart from dirty water. The top tank holds the detergent and 1 gallon of hot water and automatically mixes the two so you don’t need to get your hands wet. The lower tank holds the dirty solution picked up from the carpet and unlatches to easily pour out into a sink without spilling. For cleaning stairs or upholstery, this deep cleaner has a long 8-foot hose and a special stair/upholstery nozzle that scrubs out spots. Other features of this deep cleaner include a brush indicator, which informs you that the brushes are spinning; an on/off foot pedal; a handle release pedal; and a 27-inch wraparound cord. The Hoover SteamVac is covered by a full one-year warranty. –Cristina Vaamonde

5 Stars Easy to use does the job…
I took a look at all the neg reviews and took a chance on this one. I can not see how people had a proublem with this. It went together like a dream. I have no proublems with leaks or the carpet being wet. Sorry folks who could not figure it out, but this thing is idiot proof.
5 Stars This Cleaner Rocks! First Review I’ve Left on Amazon
I read the reviews on here and all I can add is that I am not disappointed in the least with this cleaner. Easy to use, easy to clean and store. The suction pulling up the water is amazing and left the carpet very dry. Love the power surge feature for extra dirty spots. Won’t get your carpet to look like new, nothing will if you’ve let it go too long, but the water it pulls up is black and I’m convinced that my carpets are as clean as possible. I bought this because I got a new dog who is hit and miss on the housetraining. One note, it is loud. So if you live in an apartment or townhouse like me, then you might want to wait until the weekend or during a free day to run it.
4 Stars Works great!
We used to rent the big ones from the grocery store and finally decided that with three kids and a dog we would buy our own. It was easy to assemble and fill. It does have a smaller water unit that has to be refilled often but that’s fine by me b/c I can lift it up and down my stairs easily. I have cleaned every room in my house and it did a great job- lots of black water which is so gross. There were tough statins that I sprayed with a water/vinegar solution and that helped. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase.
5 Stars totally delighted
I am totally delighted with my new Hoover Steam Vac. It was so easy to assemble and operate. It did a wonderful job. My carpets had not been cleaned in 9 (YES, 9 YEARS) though I did vacuum daily. I live in the country where tracking in dirt is a given. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. This SteamVac did a terrific job. I could not have been more pleased.
5 Stars Works like it should.
This product worked great for the whole house. Our rugs look and smell much cleaner. Didn’t have any tough stains to try it on, and haven’t used the hose yet. But the regular machine works great. Gets boring going back and forth with it tho!
Eureka 71B Hand Held Vacuum

Hand-held but very powerful, this Eureka model eliminates the hassle of lugging around a full-size vacuum for cleaning car upholstery, sofas, and carpeted stairs. A long 20-foot cord (which wraps for storage) provides good reach, as does the deluxe hose that stretches to three times its length. With the crevice tool on the end of the hose, this vacuum reaches into all kinds of tight places. And, with two motors, one to power the revolving brush and one for suction, the 5.5 amp vacuum cleans deeply.
One of Eureka’s innovations is the Riser Visor, a clear plastic cover that stays down for cleaning horizontal surfaces and flips up so the revolving brush can reach the vertical carpet on stair risers. There’s no bag to change, just a filter and clear plastic dust cup to shake out when necessary. –Ann Bieri

5 Stars It Sucks! It Really Sucks and I Love It!!!
It Rocks!!
This is my 3rd ‘hand held’ in as many months, the other two, a Shark (corded) and Bissell (cordless) removed most of the ’surface’ material (sand/grit etc), but refused to inhale any of the ever present dog and cat hair (we have a black long haired cat and dog). Vacuuming our rv used to involve first vacuuming the surface dirt and then going over the whole area, inch by inch, by hand with a rubber brush - took well over an hour. At the end of the process, my hand and back would be aching badly
This little vac gets it all, every bit of cat fluff and dog fur!! Fifteen minutes from start to finish and no more hand brushing needed. Who would have ever thought I’d be excited by a vacuum cleaner?!
Yes the hose could be a wee bit longer, and an upholstery tool would have been handy (though my Bissell one fits perfectly) but I still give it 5 stars because it does much more than I ever expected it to.
It’s the best value for money purchase I’ve made in a very long time.
1 Star Broke after the first week.
We got this vacuum for the office and within the first week the vacuum broke. We were using it to vacuum some dirt from the potted plants and somehow the dirt got stuck in the switch release and wouldn’t release the cup. I don’t recommend using it to pick up dirt/soil.
5 Stars High Power!
Although a tad on the heavy side, it’s power was immediately impressive. It picked up a ton of hair from my animals. I do wish the cord was a little bit longer. I have 15 foot ceilings, so the stairs are a little longer than most. A great device, though.
4 Stars Great vac for the money
We bought this vac mainly to use in the house for stairs, corners, and under couch/chair cushions. It’s a little on the heavy side and somewhat inconvenient with the cord, but it does a great job. With normal electricity instead of batteries (which wear out quickly) it has more power for the work we need. I would certainly recommend it.
2 Stars Hair clogs in roller and it died after a year
At first I was so excited that the vacuum cleaner picked up all the cat hair! It’s true, it was very strong and worked well. But the cat hair would clog in the roller and it was time-consuming and hard to pull it out. Also the filter is hard to clean and would take days to dry. Then after a year (almost 2 weeks after the warranty expired) it stopped sucking. So now it’s just sitting in my closet, useless, until I have time to go have it fixed.
